What's new in Windows Defender

"Have Windows 10 Anniversary Update and want to take advantage of the newest Windows Defender features to help protect your PC? You'll find the latest news and information about Windows Defender here.

We’ve updated your protection

We’ve improved the cloud-based protection and automatic sample submission features included in Windows 10 Anniversary Update so that Windows Defender can respond to new threats faster. In most cases, Windows Defender uses cloud-based protection to detect and block threats the very first time it encounters them. In some cases, Windows Defender will use the cloud to analyze the suspicious program. This analysis helps Windows Defender learn about new threats, so it can respond with protection much faster than on earlier versions of Windows.

How do I know if I’m protected?

By running Windows Defender with cloud-based protection and automatic sample submission turned on, you can rest assured that you’re receiving the very highest level of protection from the latest threats. That’s it!

Updates to Windows Defender settings

Thanks to your feedback, we’ve made some changes to the Windows Defender settings to help make securing your PC as easy as possible.

Offline scan

Run an offline scan to find and remove malware that can’t be found with a normal scan. Just select Scan offline in the Windows Defender settings.

Enhanced notifications

Use enhanced notifications to control the notifications you see. If this option is off, you'll get critical notifications when a threat is found. If it's on, you'll get critical notifications plus additional notifications for things like completed scans and recent Windows Defender activity".
